State Fair "CAN-struction" contest benefits Gleaner's Food Bank

The Indiana State Fair got underway Friday and there is already some fierce competition.

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - The Indiana State Fair got underway Friday and there is already some fierce competition.

The "CAN-struction" competition is going on at the Harvest Pavilion at the fairgrounds. Builders, engineers and architects are busy building with canned food items - ten-and-a-half tons of it!

There are no blue ribbons, but the winner will get bragging rights and Gleaner's Food Bank will get all 30,728 cans of food when the fair is over.

"It is about bragging rights. We have a good time and compete against each other, but really, it is about giving back," said Heather Cox.

Visitors get to vote for the "People's Choice Award."
