Southwest launches non-stop flight from Indianapolis to Cancun, Mexico

Southwest Airlines first international nonstop flight to Cancun, Mexico took off from the Indianapolis International Airport just in time for spring-break trips or a planned summer getaway.

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - Southwest Airlines first international nonstop flight to Cancun, Mexico took off from the Indianapolis International Airport just in time for spring-break trips or a planned summer getaway.

The flights from Indianapolis to Mexico will leave on Saturdays from now through the summer.

"Southwest is very in-tune with where passengers want to go, and today's inaugural flight is proof of that," said Mario Rodriguez, executive director of the Indianapolis Airport Authority. "Southwest is our most-traveled airline partner, and for good reason. They do their homework, and make investments aligned with what the Indianapolis market is calling for."

Cancun is a popular destination with warm beaches, resorts, and Mayan civilization ruins nearby.

Southwest will add other seasonal flights later this spring and summer with nonstop flights to Austin, Texas beginning on April 8th and year-round service to Oakland, California launching on July 15th. The airline also plans to extend or increase the number of flights to San Diego, Fort Lauderdale, and Orlando this summer.
