Police: Fog played a role in deadly I-65 crash Tuesday night

Police say a driver slowed down to see an exit when he got hit by a semi from behind.

JASPER COUNTY, Ind. (WTHR) — A man has died after a crash on Interstate 65 Tuesday night.

Verlon Curran, 69, was driving southbound on I-65 approaching the US Highway 24 exit around 9:30 p.m. when it happened. According to ISP, he slowed down so he could see the exit in the dense fog. When he slowed down, he was hit from behind be a semi , driven by 27-year-old Dimitri Cojocar.

After the crash, both Curran and the passenger in his car were taken to the hospital, where Curran was pronounced dead.
