The parents of fallen IMPD Officer Breann Leath have released a statement to the community in a YouTube video.

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) — The parents of fallen IMPD Officer Breann Leath have released a statement to the community in a YouTube video.

"We appreciate the thought and just the words of encouragement everyone's been sending us," said Jennifer Leath.

"Even though she's our daughter, I know she's a piece of the community so I'm very thankful for the kind words," said Tom Leath.

They said they appreciate the space everyone has given them so they can process the huge loss.

"Breann loves this city and she loved what she did. And as a mom it's a big deal to see your children recognize their life-long dreams. And Breann did it. She did what she wanted to do," Jennifer said.

As a child, they said Breann was always talking to everybody and they had to try and keep her from it but she was a friend to everybody.

"Her nickname was breezy. She was like the wind, she was just a force. She would come in the room, definitely knew she was there," Jennifer said.

The family wanted everyone to know how much Breann cared about the community and the people she served. They want people to know Breann was made to be an officer.

"I hope her classmates and her shiftmates and just everybody, our whole blue family realizes how much she loved this job and cherished every minute of it. She was having the time of her life," Jennifer said.
