Online 'heat map' shows where naloxone has been administered

The Indiana Committee to Combat Drug Abuse launched an online "heat map" which shows areas where naloxone has been administered.

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - A new online tool helps paint a better picture of the drug epidemic in central Indiana and beyond.

The Indiana Committee to Combat Drug Abuse launched an online "heat map" which shows areas where naloxone has been administered.

When we checked the Indianapolis area on the map, we saw EMS runs for overdoses just this year.

It showed a high concentration in the downtown area near the jail, a homeless shelter and Central Library.

There is also a large "hot spot" on the east side around 10th and Emerson.

The goal of the tool is to get help where it's needed most.

"This map now allows individuals to really have evidence to show where these administrations are occurring, not just for those individuals but maybe programming, community programs out there so they can help in their communities and the like," said Lee Everett.

The locations are approximate to help protect privacy.
