INDIANAPOLIS - Repair crews are shoring up the elevated stretch of I-65 that runs from the North Split to West Street, prompting a full overnight closure of northbound lanes, starting tonight.

Crews are working above and underneath the bridges, patching concrete, painting steel and wrapping bridge piers with plastic to protect and strengthen the structure.

Construction on the bridge decks started Sunday night. During the closure, crews will seal joints between each bridge span to prevent moisture from damaging concrete and steel. Some concrete pavement will also be repaired during the overnight closures.

Starting at 9:00 p.m. Tuesday, all northbound lanes of I-65 west of the north split will be closed. The exit ramp to Pennsylvania Ave. and Meridian St. will remain open. Ramp work took place Sunday and Monday overnight while the ramps were shut down.

Lanes should reopen by 6:00 a.m. Wednesday.

Crews will follow the same schedule for overnight shutdowns Thursday and Friday morning.

During tonight's closure, the northbound I-65 ramp to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Street/West Street will close temporarily and the Pine Street entrance ramp to northbound I-65 will close temporarily.

After northbound work is complete, crews will move to complete similar work on the southbound side of I-65.
