Million dollar grant will address crime in east side neighborhoods

The money will target the Indy East Promise area, including Sherman Park, 10th and Rural and Englewood Village.

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - The City of Indianapolis is getting a $1 million dollar grant to fight crime.

The money will target the Indy East Promise area, including Sherman Park, 10th and Rural and Englewood Village.

Mayor Joe Hogsett and U.S Attorney Josh Minkler joined community leaders for the announcement.

Over the next 3 years, the money will be used to root out the causes of crime.

"Because solving public safety in our community isn't just about our friends in law enforcement, it's about creating jobs, finding solutions and finding different ways to be able to impact poverty and issues of education, issues of addiction, mental health and different areas of work thats happening there," Minkler said.

The first year will focus on developing a plan. Years two and three will be about executing it.
