INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - A man who discovered a burning body in his east side neighborhood is looking for answers. During his evening walk, he stumbled upon that scene in the backyard of a vacant home.

L.C. Fleming was walking on East 37th Street when he saw something he could not believe.

"It happened right at this house," he said, retracing his steps for WTHR's crew.

You can always catch Fleming walking this neighborhood for exercise. It's part of his stay-young routine.

But Wednesday night a fire along this walk route caught his attention. It happened as he passed a vacant home at Drexel and East 37th Street around 11:00 pm.

Knowing no one lived there, Fleming decided to get a closer look.

"Once I saw the flames, I thought I don't know why anyone would start a fire right there. I just walked up to the fence to see what it was and that is when I noticed his feet and legs. I thought it was a mannequin but I wasn't for sure. But I put two and two together and said that has got to be a body right there," he said.

Emergency crews arrived and confirmed Fleming's suspicions.

Now, knowing the victim is someone's family member, he hopes someone comes forward with helpful information.

Thursday evening, police ruled the man's death a homicide. If you have any information that could help police in this case, call Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS.
