LOWELL, Mich. — For the first time in its history, Lowell held its first Pride event on Saturday, beginning with the Drag Queen Story Hour at 11 a.m. The event also included a panel discussion and fashion show.
Organizers say they had gotten mixed feedback leading up to the event, but that overall the community is just happy that Lowell is showing support.
“Of course you can’t have anything with the LGBTQ community and not have people who are going to be upset about it,” said Nicole Lintemuth, president of Lowell Pride. “But for the most part it’s been really positive. We have a ton of people who are just so excited to have this happening in Lowell, and the few haters, they are currently being surrounded by free mom hugs so nobody can see them anyways, it’s fine.”
While Lowell Pride is a one-day event this year, activities will take place until nightfall Saturday night. For more information on the event, click here.
