Logansport police looking for man who made hoax calls to 911

Police are searching for a man who made two fake phone calls to 911 overnight, claiming he’d killed someone and planned to take hostages at a Logansport motel.

LOGANSPORT, Ind. (WTHR) - Police are searching for a man who made two fake phone calls to 911 overnight, claiming he’d killed someone and planned to take hostages at a motel.

Logansport police say the calls came to dispatch around 12:45 a.m. Sunday.

The male voice said he killed someone in a room and gave the address of the Holiday Inn Express on the east side of Logansport.

He said he was going to "tie up kids and other hostages" in the motel.

Logansport Police responded with SWAT officers and hostage negotiators. State Police and Cass County Sheriff’s deputies also responded.

Police spent about five hours overnight slowly clearing every room in the motel while trying to track the caller.

They eventually determined there was no danger to the public. "It was all a hoax," according to Logansport Assistant Police Chief Dan Frye.

Police still plan to track down the caller because he will likely face charges for the two bogus 911 calls he made to bring out a large police response for several hours, as well as waking everyone in the motel for nothing.
