LEBANON, Ind. (WTHR) - A woman is praising a Lebanon police officer after he helped rescue an injured cat from the middle of a road.

Stefani Welcher was driving on Highway 32 when she noticed a kitten stuck in the middle of the street. In a Facebook post, she described how people continued to drive over the cat, and his leg appeared to be hurt.

Welcher said she pulled over to help the cat, but it crawled under her car in fear. Then, Officer Lecher of the Lebanon Police Department stopped and stayed with them for 20 minutes to rescue the cat from beneath the car.

The cat is now at the Humane Society of Boone County awaiting adoption.
