RANDOLPH COUNTY (WTHR) - A former Indiana University football player faces two charges of child molesting after investigators say he admitted to a sexual encounter with a 13-year-old girl. He's also been dismissed from the football team.

Randolph County sheriff's deputies arrested Kiante Christopher Enis, 19, on Thursday.

The sheriff's department learned of a possible relationship between Enis and the girl on Wednesday. Both admitted to a sexual encounter on at least two occasions in Randolph County.

Enis is being charged with a Level 3 felony. If convicted, he could face up to 16 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

According to the probable cause, the teen first told Police she and Enis were just friends who hung out together on occasion. She said their relationship didn't develop into anything because Enis went off to college and she moved out of town.

She said that Enis had sent her pictures of himself once or twice. She later admitted that the two had had sex twice in March of 2016.

Enis told detectives that he thought the girl was 16 years old, not 13. Both participants denied the encounters before coming clean.

Enis was listed as a wide receiver for the Hoosiers. IU released this statement after news of his arrest: "Indiana Football has dismissed freshman Kiante Enis from the program effective immediately."

Enis was a standout player at Winchester High School, and the ninth all-time rusher in the state with over 7,000 yards and 98 touchdowns.

He initially committed to Michigan and then decided on IU, becoming one of the Hoosiers' top recruits.

He had not yet played as an Indiana Hoosier - and now he never will.

"As a student it's almost deplorable to say that you are accepted into this home, and our student body at IU and then carry on...with an underage student. You know the expectation of yourself," said Haley Keitel, IU student.0

"I think it's unfortunate. I wouldn't expect something like that from a college student," said Camille Campbell, another IU student.

Indiana University football confirms that and Enis had not been suiting up with the team. He was sidelined as part of the university's concussion program.
