INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) – Indy Parks is stressing to visitors to follow new rules at parks to stay safe.

The parks are open but playgrounds, basketball courts and buildings are off-limits.

Unfortunately, not enough people are getting the message.

Parks and public health leaders are struggling to slow the spread of COVID-19.

They want visitors to keep their distance by staying at least 6-feet away from each other.

"We are calling out to the public to do something," Indy Parks' Ronnetta Spalding said. "To pay attention to those guidelines and do their part. We are not wanting you to stay home and not do anything but if you are going to participate in any fitness or exercise we do want you to follow the guidelines."

Indy Parks says new warning signs are going up next week.

According to Spalding, park rangers and IMPD officers are reminding visitors about the new rules.
