Indy couple forced to reschedule wedding twice due to COVID-19

Couples are being forced to either reschedule or cancel their big day while venues and most churches remain empty.

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) – Spring and summer are two of the busiest seasons for weddings, but venues and most churches remain empty.

Couples are being forced to either reschedule or cancel their big day. Some, not wanting to wait, have done ceremonies virtually with family and friends.

Nick and Kaci Bucholtz had to reschedule their wedding not once, but twice.

The Indy couple ended up doing a small ceremony with their parents at the canal downtown. They had the officiant conduct the ceremony through Skype on an iPad.

The newly engaged couple was planning on tying the knot on April 4. A day they had set for months, but then the pandemic hit.

“We weren’t too nervous but then two weeks before the wedding, the shutdown happened,” Kaci said.

So they rescheduled it for June 13, only to find out that would be one day before the state allows gatherings of more than 250 people.

They rescheduled their ceremony again for August 22, hoping it was third time’s the charm.

“For the first one, I cried. He rescheduled,” Kaci said. “The second one we kind of saw coming.”

Even though the small ceremony downtown wasn’t what the couple imagined a year ago when Nick popped the question, they said at least it was memorable.

“I did my own hair. He zipped my dress. It all worked out,” Kaci said.

Now, they are looking forward to their “second wedding” and possibly a second bachelor party if Nick gets his way.
