INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - Road crews will take a moratorium for the Labor Day weekend from Friday through the morning hours of Tuesday, Sept. 2.
Because Labor Day weekend brings high volume to Indiana’s highways, the Indiana Department of Transportation asks contractors to limit road restrictions to ease traffic flow for holiday drivers.
Metro Indianapolis Interstates will be fully open through the weekend.
Some restrictions remain over the holiday weekend as travelers reach Fort Wayne and Lake County.
In central Indiana, I-74 in Montgomery County is restricted to one lane in each direction near Crawfordsville.
In southern Indiana, I-65, in Jackson and Bartholomew counties will have lane restrictions in both directions between Seymour and Columbus. After the holiday, drivers will see lanes shifted through the same stretch with crossovers routing northbound and southbound traffic. The speed limit will remain at 55 MPH in the work zone.
State Road 37 in Martinsville is reduced to one lane in each direction as crews build out that stretch of the new I-69.
On Friday, Sept. 6, crews will start patching on I-70 between Mt. Comfort Road in Hancock County and the Ohio border, moving eastbound then back westbound in ten mile increments. Drivers should expect single lane closures through Thanksgiving.
In Indianapolis, the second phase of the Interstate 465 paving project will close I-465 southbound at I-70 on the east side to westbound at I-65 on the south side starting Sept. 6 at 9 p.m. until the weekend of Sept. 21.
