MARTINSVILLE, Ind. (AP/WTHR) — Indiana state highway officials are expecting to close a section of State Road 37, the main route, between Indianapolis and Bloomington for 10 months in 2021.
The planned closure will occur during the normal construction season from spring to fall on the next stage of the Interstate 69 extension project.
The Indiana Department of Transportation has awarded a nearly $165 million contract for upgrading Indiana 37 through Martinsville as part of the I-69 work.
Officials say closing the 6-mile section from State Road 39 to north of State Road 44 in 2021 will allow the work to be finished in one construction season rather than two.
The official detour would use S.R. 144 north of Martinsville, S.R. 67 and S.R. 39 south of town to bypass the construction zone.
The I-69 extension has been under construction since 2008 and currently runs from Evansville to Martinsville.
