INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) — Thousands of educators and supporters showed up at the Indiana Statehouse on Tuesday for Red for Ed Action Day.
The day is a national movement for which education is advocated.
More than half of Indiana's school districts closed to allow teachers, administrators and community members to attend the event - totaling what was expected to be a gathering of more than 15,000 people.
The teachers and administrators had three goals in mind:
- Better compensation
- A temporary hold on teacher and school evaluations based on ILEARN
- Removal of a 15-hour externship requirement to renew their teaching license
While only a fraction of educators had the opportunity to speak at the Statehouse today, many used signs to express their feelings.
