SHELBY COUNTY, Ind. (WTHR) — Indiana State Police and the Shelby County Water Rescue team responded to a semi submerged in water Saturday afternoon.

Shortly after 3 p.m., officials were alerted of a semi crashing through a cable barrier on I-65 southbound near Edinburgh and going into the Big Blue River.

According to the Shelbyville Fire Department, the driver was still inside the vehicle when officials arrived and was unable to get out.

Members of the Shelby County Water Rescue team — which consists of the Shelby County Indiana Sheriff Department, Shelbyville Fire Department and Fairland Fire Department — were able to successfully remove the driver from the semi.

State police say the driver was taken to the hospital.

No other vehicles were involved in the incident, but it did cause lane closures in both directions on I-65 for multiple hours.
