HENRYVILLE, Ind. (WTHR) - The driver of a semi was killed in a fiery crash on Interstate 65 Monday evening.

According to WAVE-TV in Louisville, the crash happened on southbound I-65 near the Henryville exit around 6:15 p.m. Police say a semi went off the right side of the highway and down an embankment, where it struck a tree and caught fire.

The tractor-trailer became fully engulfed in flames with the driver trapped inside. Police say it's not known if the unidentified driver died before or after the crash.

State police say the semi was hauling dairy products at the time of the crash.

All southbound lanes of the interstate were closed for more than an hour, before police opened one lane to traffic. Northbound traffic was also slow in the area of the crash, WAVE reported. At 9 p.m., traffic was reportedly still backed up for about five miles.
