INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) — Indiana State Police troopers will be working overtime to arrest impaired drivers from mid-August through Labor Day.
As part of the nationwide "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign, expect to see sobriety checkpoints, roving patrol and saturation patrols.
As a reminder, it is illegal to drive with a blood alcohol concentration of .08 or higher nationwide.
The cost of a taxi or ride-sharing service is much cheaper than the average $10,000 DWI cost, which includes car towing and repairs, attorney fees, fines, court costs, and lost time at work.
Law enforcement provided a list of safe alternatives to impaired driving:
- Designate, or be, a sober driver.
- Use public transportation.
- Call a cab or a ride-sharing service.
- Celebrate at home or a place where you can stay until sober.
- Throwing a party? Offer non-alcoholic beverages and plenty of food.
- Never provide alcohol to minors.
- Ask young drivers about their plans.
- Friend or family member about to drive? Take the keys and make alternate arrangements.
