ISP releases visitation, funeral arrangements to honor Trooper Stephan

Indiana State Police are releasing visitation and funeral information to honor Trooper Peter Stephan.

HOWARD COUNTY, Ind. (WTHR) – Indiana State Police are releasing visitation and funeral information in honor of Trooper Peter Stephan.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, Oct. 17 from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Crossroads Community Church, located at 4254 S 00 EW, Kokomo, IN 46902.

The funeral service will be held on Friday, Oct. 18 at 11 a.m. at Crossroads Community Church.

Burial will take place immediately following the funeral service at the Russiaville Cemetery, located at 3801 S 775 W, Russiaville, IN 46979.

Both the visitation and funeral service are open to the public.

The procession from the Crossroads Community Church to the Russiaville Cemetery will travel north on State Road 931, west on State Road 26 and north on County Road 775W to the cemetery.

State police encourage the public to line the procession route to show their gratitude and support for Trooper Stephan and his family.

"State police was always his goal. We were all so proud of him when he got there," said Scott Osborne from Howard Co. Emergency Management. "He never did forget where he came from. He'd come by and visit us a couple of times after he got on. It's just a tragic loss."

Community support was also clearly evident Monday in Tippecanoe County as people dropped off flowers and tied balloons to a state trooper car in honor of Stephan.

"I said a prayer for him and his family and for his daughter," said West Lafayette resident, Glenda Merrill. "It's heartbreaking to think she will go through her entire life and neer know who her dad was."

Trooper Stephan died late Friday night in Tippecanoe County while responding to a call for backup. Stephan was 27 years old.
