9/11 ceremonies to attend in central Indiana

Ceremonies across central Indiana are happening throughout the day today to honor the nearly 3,000 people that lost their lives during the attacks on our nation on Sept. 11, 2001.

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) — Ceremonies across central Indiana are happening throughout the day today to honor the nearly 3,000 people that lost their lives during the attacks on our nation on Sept. 11, 2001.

Here are the list of events you can attend:

  • Brownsburg
    • 10 a.m. at the 9-11 Memorial at Arbuckle Commons (7249 Arbuckle Commons)
    • The memorial features a beam recovered from the World Trade Center after its collapse.
  • Carmel
    • 8:46 a.m. at Carmel Fire Department headquarters (2 Civic Square)
  • Chapel Glen Elementary
    • 1:30 p.m. - 2:20 p.m. at 701 Lansdowne Road
    • The ceremony will include patriotic songs sung by the students, short speeches by invited guests and a live performance of "Taps" on trumpet.
  • Columbus
    • 8:40 a.m. at Columbus City Hall (123 Washington Street)
  • Never Forget 9/11 Ride — Harley Davidson of Indianapolis
    • Registration from 4:30 p.m. - 6:15 p.m. at 12400 Reynolds Drive in Fishers
    • Short ceremony and safety briefing by IMPD at 6:30 p.m.
    • Motorcycles-only escort to the Indiana 9/11 Memorial at 7 p.m.
    • Wreath laying, bell ringing and candlelight remembrance at the Indiana 9/11 Memorial at 7:45 p.m.
  • Indianapolis
    • 10 a.m. at the 9/11 Memorial (421 West Ohio Street)
  • Indianapolis International Airport
    • 8:43 a.m. at the Civic Plaza inside the airport
    • The ceremony will feature a display of a piece of steel from the World Trade Center recovered from Ground Zero.
  • I-465 and 56th Street
    • Jimmy Clark will be waving an American flag on the West 56th Street Bridge from 6:01 a.m. - 6:01 p.m.
    • Clark has been waving the flag at this location every year on this day since 2002.
  • Lebanon
    • 8:46 a.m. at the Lebanon NH Fire Department (12 South Park Street)
