Homicide investigation closes I-65 near Whitestown

Whitestown police are investigating after an Illinois woman was found dead with gunshot wounds in an SUV on I-65 Sunday night.

BOONE COUNTY, Ind. (WTHR) — Whitestown police are investigating after an Illinois woman was found dead with gunshot wounds in an SUV on I-65 Sunday night.

According to Whitestown police, officers were called to check a disabled vehicle against the guardrail on Interstate 65 at the 131 mile-marker shortly before 4 a.m.

They found an unconscious and unresponsive woman in the SUV. Medics were called and pronounced her deceased.

She has been identified as Ceaira M. Reed, 29, of Illinois. Police say she had what appeared to be gunshot wounds when they found her alone in the white Mercedes SUV.

Police say there is no immediate public safety threat.

Traffic diverted the Zionsville-Whitestown exit until the scene was cleared the highway reopened just after 8 a.m.
