Historic Nashville buildings go to auction

Historic buildings went on the auction block Wednesday afternoon in Nashville in Brown County.

NASHVILLE, Ind. (WTHR) – Historic buildings went on the auction block Wednesday afternoon in Nashville in Brown County.

Roughly a third of the town's commercial district went up for bid.

Eyewitness News first told you about the auction earlier this month and the concerns many raised about how new owners could potentially impact the town's historic charm.

The 16 properties are all part of the Andy Rogers estate.

Rogers was a fixture in Nashville, who recently passed away.

Town leaders tell Eyewitness News that bids during the auction totaled $3.8 million dollars.

Each property reached its minimum bid and four of the properties were sold prior to the live auction.

The rest were auctioned off in front of a crowd inside the Brown County Historical Society.

Town leaders say several of the buyers were locals, who bid on their own shop buildings.

To preserve the town's charm, Nashville also just amended its demolition ordinance.

In part, that prevents new owners from tearing down buildings 50 years old or older, without 180 days for review and approval.
