I-65-Semi-Crash

TIPPECANOE COUNTY (WTHR) - The northbound lanes of I-65 were closed in Clinton County most of the afternoon due to an accident involving two semis. The accident happened at the 164 mile marker in Tippecanoe County around 1:30 p.m.

Police say the driver of one semi fell asleep and began to drift off of the road. Police say the driver tried to swerve but struck the bridge wall causing the trailer to jack knife, blocking the northbound lanes. Another semi pulling a diesel tanker was traveling behind the crash but unable to stop.

The semi drove through the trailer of the stopped semi spreading water bottles all over the roadway.

Police says drivers traveling north on I-65 should exit at State Road 28 and go west to US 52 north to State Road 38. Go east on 38 to return to I-65.

Police say both semi drivers were able to exit the accident without injury.

One lane of northbound traffic is now open.
