Family takes in dog thrown from car on I-74

A south side couple is trying to find the person who they say threw a dog out of a car on the interstate.

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - A south side couple is trying to find the person who they say threw a dog out of a car on the interstate.

It happened Saturday afternoon.

Kathy and Brian Wood said they were driving on Interstate 74 when they noticed a red Mini Cooper pulled over on the side of the road.

“Then we saw this black ball come out of the window and then they bolted off and we sat there for a minute and I said ‘oh my God, that’s a dog. That’s a puppy,” Kathy Wood recalled.

The dog was left on the side of the road. Kathy says a number of people stopped to help rescue the dog and avoid oncoming traffic.

The Woods ended up bringing the dog home, which they say was scared and malnourished.

“To see somebody do something like that to a small animal, to any animal, it just makes you want to rattle their chains. Kids and animals, that's where most people have compassion. And the grown-ups need to know better. And they need to be held accountable for it,” Kathy Wood said.

No police report has been filed in the incident. The Woods hope to be able to get the dog to see a vet this week.

They haven’t decided if they will adopt her, but they have set up a GoFundMe page to help cover medical expenses.
