ANDERSON, Ind. (WTHR) - An Elwood mother will face murder charges for the death of her 11-month-old daughter.

The Madison County prosecutor said charges against 22-year-old Anna Pablo will be enhanced to a murder charge after the coroner ruled her daughter Emmarie's death a homicide.

The child had been brought to Ascension St Vincent Mercy Hospital on Tuesday. The coroner was called at 12:40 p.m.

Madison County Coroner Danielle Noone told our partners at the Herald Tribune Emmarie had suffered abusive head trauma. There were also signs of suffocation and strangulation and significant bruising on the little girl's body.

Noone said Emmarie was deceased before she was taken to the emergency room.

“It’s appalling what has been happening to children in this community,” Prosecutor Rodney Cummings said. “It’s an outrage.”

Pablo is being held at the Madison County Jail after her arrest Wednesday. She will be charged with murder and two counts of neglect of a dependent.
