Crews battling large fire at Hamilton County marine business

Multiple crews are battling a large fire at the Portside Marine business along U.S. 31 at 226th Street.

HAMILTON COUNTY, Ind. (WTHR) - Multiple crews are battling a large fire at the Portside Marine business along U.S. 31 at 226th Street.

The fire started around 9:40 a.m. in a large pole barn on the property that sells and services boats, according to Sheridan Fire Chief Travis Stern.

The fire heavily damaged the 12,000 square foot building and some boats parked outside.

Authorities have not reported any injuries.

They have not been able to do a full search of the building to investigate a cause.

Traffic is able to pass on the northbound side U.S. 31. Intermittent backups are forming on the southbound side of U.S. 31 while fire apparatus and tankers are staging there and along 226th St. to fight the fire.

A total of thirteen departments from Hamilton and Tipton counties brought crews to the scene and needed about 90 minutes to get the fire under control.

Stern said approximately 60 firefighters responded.
