Community playing unlimited pinball to help raise money for dementia awareness

Unlimited pinball for $20 and it all goes to raise money for a more dementia-friendly community.

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) — Pinball enthusiasts are having unlimited fun for just $20 at Book & Brews South Indy.

It's all to raise awareness and raise funds for those trying to create a more welcoming environment for people living with dementia and their families.

"We find that when someone is handed the diagnosis of dementia, they are kinda lost. And they become isolated," said Jean Ross of Dementia Friends Indiana.

So "how do we make a community dementia-friendly?" Ross asked. She said brainstorming is core to finding solutions. And one example can be found at Hamilton East Public Library.

"They realized someone who has this diagnosis doesn't really have a fun activity to go do. So they started a Memory Cafe at their library," Ross said.

She said the Memory Cafe is a place where people are educated on dementia and those who have been diagnosed as well as their family and friends can go there and feel comfortable.

The unlimited pinball event for Dementia Friends Indiana is from 11 a.m. til 11 p.m. Saturday.
