Indiana Avenue closure extended for 'Black Lives Matter' mural

The extended closure is meant to allow time for the mural to dry.

INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana Avenue will now stay closed through Thursday while work is done on a "Black Lives Matter" mural. The street was originally set to reopen on Monday.

The extended closure is meant to allow time for the mural to dry.

Suggested detours:

  • Traffic headed northwest on Indiana Avenue should use West Street/Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, 11th Street, 10th Street, and University Boulevard.
  • Traffic headed southeast on Indiana Avenue should use University Boulevard, New York Street, and West Street.

The mural has been five or six months in the making, and was approved by the City-County Council in July. Supplies were donated by the Indianapolis Urban League and community leaders selected 18 Black visual artists to complete the street mural.
