INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) — Citizens Energy Group is taking a step to ensure all customers can practice good hygiene during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The utility company announced Monday it would reconnect water and natural gas for all customers who had lost them due to nonpayment.

"Because of the importance of hand washing and hygiene during the COVID-19 emergency, Citizens urges all customers without water and/or natural gas service to call us immediately," President and CEO Jeffrey Harrison said.

Customers who need their utilities reconnected should call (317) 924-3311 and technicians will work to provide service again as soon as possible.

Customers in need of water and wastewater will be reconnected first due to the nature of the pandemic. Citizens will accept whatever payment disconnected customers can give, and try to supplement the outstanding balance through other sources.

In line with an executive order from Gov. Eric Holcomb, Citizens will also not cut off utilities for customers who cannot pay during this public health emergency.
