CARMEL, Ind. (WTHR) - On Wednesday, the city of Carmel is changing its name to "Caramel".

Yes, you read that right.

Wednesday is National Caramel Day, so the fine people at Werther's Original Caramels convinced officials in Carmel to change the name of the city - for 24 hours - in honor of the day.

Werther's Original is inviting candy lovers in Carmel to enjoy fun and games and sweet caramel treats Wednesday. Residents will also be able to cast their votes in the Great Caramel Day Debate: is it pronounced "ker-uh-muhl" or "kar-muhl"? In honor of the day, Carmel Mayor James Brainard will officially change the town’s name and pronunciation to Caramel (ker-uh-muhl).

There will also be celebrities present, like Indianapolis-born "Bachelorette" Trista Sutter and former Colts and Boilermakers quarterback Mark Herrmann.

Ahead of this massive celebration, I took to the streets of Carmel (or is it "Caramel"?) to get reaction on the city’s upcoming name change. I also tried to settle the debate once and for all: are these Werther’s candies pronounced "Carmels" or "Caramels"?!
