INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - A hotel in downtown Indianapolis wants to help local health care workers who may not be able to go home.

The Alexander Hotel is partnering with the Buckingham Foundation to offer free rooms for doctors, nurses and first responders through the end of April.

The hotel in Buckingham's CityWay neighborhood will serve as a satellite kitchen for Second Helpings to serve free meals to people in need.

The hotel's food service team will prepare additional meals.

“We wanted to find a tangible and meaningful way to support the community right now, and we are honored to do our part in Second Helpings’ initiative to serve the hungry in Indianapolis,” said Theresa Rhodes, executive director of Buckingham Foundation.

Second Helpings prepares eat-at-home meals for homebound low-income seniors and families struggling during this time.

Three days a week, the Alexander and Buckinham Foundation will provide 250 meals to seniors at Fletcher Place.
