NASHVILLE, Ind. (WTHR) - The Brown County Sheriff's office is working an unusual case from this weekend. A man's car exploded - with him inside - yet he was able to drive a mile away before deputies located him, unhurt.
According to a news release from Deputy Josh Stargell, the BCSO spokesman, a 2004 PT Cruiser exploded shortly before 10:00 p.m. Friday in the parking lot of the Green Valley Motor Lodge, located at 692 State Road 46 West in Nashville.
Deputies found the car about a mile away, near the Brown County State Park west entrance, and stopped the driver there.
He told them that a propane tank inside the vehicle exploded at the motel. Somehow, he was not injured but was later taken to the Columbus Regional Health Stress Center to be checked out.
Damage to the hotel included several broken windows, according to the Brown County Democrat.
Investigators say the explosion does not appear to be accidental, and is not drug related.
The Sheriff's Office has not released the man's name.
