Boy Scouts troop evacuated safely after fire at Indianapolis church

Everyone is OK after a fire at an Indianapolis church during a Boy Scouts meeting Saturday night.

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) – Everyone is OK after a fire at an Indianapolis church during a Boy Scouts meeting Saturday night.

Indianapolis Fire Department responded to reports of a heavy fire coming from the rear of New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church around 5:18 p.m. Saturday.


Crews were on scene within a few minutes to tackle the fire on the second floor of the church.

Crews discovered the fire coming from the kitchen.

The strength of the fire ended up going through the roof.


All 20 people inside the church for a Boy Scouts meeting were evacuated safely.

No injuries were reported.

The fire was under control in about 25 minutes. Authorities estimate $100,000 worth of damage.

The church was built in 1895 and has about 75 families.
