INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - Three firefighters were hurt while at a vacant house fire early Friday morning.

One fell through the floor into the basement; a second fell from the second floor through the first floor and into the basement; and a third was hit on the head by a falling joist. Other crews quickly brought all three out of the home. They were taken to the hospital to be checked out for back, elbow, shoulder, neck and arm pain, but all are expected to be okay.

Indianapolis firefighters have battled 27 structure fires so far this month - 13 of which have been in vacant structures, including this incident.

"The structural integrity of these homes is often compromised either due to the lack of maintenance, vandalism, arson or theft and presents a huge and significant safety issue for firefighters responding to the fire," an IFD spokesperson said in a written statement Friday morning. "Please help keep us safe as we respond to keep you safe."

No word yet what started this fire.
