12-year-old girl drowns in Lafayette backyard pool

Police say a group of children were swimming in the pool and it was when they were called inside that parents noticed the 12-year-old was missing.

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WTHR) — Lafayette Police tell Eyewitness News a 12-year-old girl drowned in a backyard pool Wednesday evening.

It happened in the 2500 block of Robinwood Drive.

Police say a group of children were swimming in the pool and it was when they were called inside that parents noticed the 12-year-old was missing.

The girl was pulled from the pool and when police and firefighters arrived, they took over performing CPR.

The 12-year-old girl was taken to a Lafayette hospital and then flown to Indianapolis hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The drowning is considered accidental.
