FRANKLIN, Ind. (WTHR) – 13 Investigates has learned soil and vapor testing will be conducted at Webb and Needham elementary schools in Franklin in hopes of getting results before the start of school on August 8.
The school district hired EnviroForensics a week ago after 13 Investigates broke the story on disturbing test results showing dangerous levels of known carcinogens in six of 14 homes near the old Amphenol industrial site.
That site is also near the contaminated Webb Wellfield.
The tests were conducted by the Edison Wetlands Association and the environmental engineering firm Mundell & Associates.
Edison Wetlands and the grassroots group “If It Was Your Child” sent a letter to Franklin Community Schools asking the board to allow Edison Wetlands to conduct testing alongside its firm at no cost to the school district.
Shannon Lisa, Project Director with EWA said it’s a good way to create more data.
13 Investigates has also learned that it appears the district has declined the offer.
EnviroForensics crews are already on site at Webb to begin testing. Teachers are expected to begin training on Thursday.
