Indianapolis, December 31, 2003 - At the time he was supposed to be on the air Tuesday, X-103 Disc Jockey Adam Ritz was instead booked into the Marion County jail.  Prosecutors accuse the longtime Indianapolis radio personality of rape.

Wednesday, the station issued this statement:  "At this time Adam Ritz is taking a break from the airwaves to address personal issues.  It is the policy of WRZX FM and Clear Channel Radio to respect the privacy of all of our employees and to refrain from comment related to personal matters."

Detectives interviewed Ritz Tuesday about allegations stemming from a rape investigation.

"We did interview Mr. Ritz today," said Marion County Sheriff's Lt. Phil Burton, "and after the interview is when we actually placed him under arrest."

Eyewitness News learned that sex crime detectives took a report from Ritz's 22-year-old baby sitter at the Sheriff's department on December 15.  The woman told deputies Ritz came home after drinking, climbed into bed with her and raped her on December 12th in his home.

The afternoon drive disc jockey said nothing to reporters while on his way to booking. But he will get a chance to at least enter a preliminary plea if prosecutors find enough evidence to file formal rape charges.

Detectives say they were taking their time since the December 15 report to make sure there was at least enough reason to first take Adam Ritz in for questioning.  After Tuesday's questioning, detectives decided to move forward with the an arrest and preliminary charges.
