WASHINGTON (WTHR) — Due to an ongoing salmonella outbreak, Jennie-O has recalled 91,000 pounds of raw ground turkey products.
The recall includes the following products:
- 1-lb. packages of "Jennie-O GROUND TURKEY 93% LEAN | 7% FAT" with "Use by" dates of 10/01/2018 and 10/02/2018
- 1-lb. packages of "Jennie-O TACO SEASONED GROUND TURKEY" with a "Use by" date of 10/02/2018
- 1-lb. packages of "Jennie-O GROUND TURKEY 85% LEAN | 15% FAT" with a "Use by" date of 10/02/2018
- 1-lb. packages of "Jennie-O ITALIAN SEASONED GROUND TURKEY" with a "Use by" date of 10/02/2018
The items were shipped to retailers nationwide.
A sample from the turkey in the recall matched the strain of Salmonella found in an infected patient.
According to recall information from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, 164 patients in 35 states are being investigated to help get to the bottom of the outbreak.
The Food Safety and Inspection Service said a big concern is turkey that may in freezers. If you find the turkey in your refrigerator or freezer, return it to the place of purchase.
