LAS VEGAS (WTHR) — Andrew Luck's retirement may have even inspired a game show champion.
After Luck's announcement, 32-game "Jeopardy!" champion James Holzhauer tweeted, "I hope to be as brave as Andrew Luck one day. Imagine reaching the pinnacle of the only job you've ever trained for, finding no joy in it, and having the guts to do the right thing for yourself even though millions of fans will hate you for it."
Did Holzhauer just admit to throwing in the towel in his final game?
On the June 3 episode, Holzhauer was defeated by Chicago librarian Emma Boettcher.
The professional sports gambler's first of 33 appearances on "Jeopardy!" was April 4 as he breezed by most of his competition with his knowledge and aggressive betting strategy.
The Jeopardy! Fan reports his winnings totaled $2,464,216, averaging out to $75,362 per episode, which was nearly as much as the previous highest single-day winning set by Roger Craig in 2010 ($77,000).
Holzhauer has the 16 highest single-day winnings in program history, topping out at $131,127 in his tenth appearance.
In Holzhauer's 32 victories, only three games were not declared runaways, which means his lead going into Final Jeopardy could not guarantee a win.
