Greenwood, June 24, 2004 - A high-speed chase in Greenwood Thursday night ended in a crash, leaving eight people injured. The police chase started after a woman tried to buy the drug hydrocodone at Walgreens with a fraudulent prescription.

Dawn Rivera and the driver, Elias Ramos, are in police custody.

After the pharmacy called police to the store's drive-up window, the woman and the man driving the car gave chase. Greenwood police say the chase reached speeds of 100 miles per hour.

The chase came to an abrupt end at the intersection of County Line Road and Madison Avenue. That’s where witnesses say the car went out of control.

"I guess he hit a wet spot. But he hit the curb. When he hit the curb he flew airborne over and he just started twisting like a tornado and it was like, car after car. He barely missed me by about an inch. The force from his car moved my van into the median," said Amber Kibby, who saw the crash.

Eight people were taken to the hospital, including two children riding with the couple during the chase.

After being released from the hospital early Friday morning, Rivera and Ramos were taken back to Greenwood for processing.  They're now at the Johnson County Jail in Franklin.

Police say none of them had severe injuries.

Rivera is facing charges of child endangerment, fleeing from police, resisting arrest and two counts of possessing the controlled substance hydrocodone.
