Victim identified in Wednesday Lawrence fatal shooting

Police in Lawrence are investigating a fatal shooting that happened around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday.

LAWRENCE, Ind. (WTHR) — Police in Lawrence are investigating a fatal shooting that happened around 2:30 Wednesday morning.

Officers were called to the Canterbury House Apartments near 47th Street and Franklin Road on a report of a person shot.

Police found a man behind a dumpster in the apartment complex suffering from a gunshot wound.

The victim has been identified as 22-year-old Aaron Grice. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say Grice didn’t live at the apartments but was there to meet acquaintances.

“So far we haven’t located anyone who was an eyewitness to the incident, but officers will be following up and canvassing the area,” said Lawrence Police Deputy Chief Gary Woodruff.

This is the seventh murder in Lawrence so far this year. Three of those homicides have happened at the Canterbury House Apartments.

“We’ve had some issues in this complex. Unfortunately, it’s been a busy year here,” said Woodruff. “We did have a double homicide here in the summertime. A few other incidents. We have paid a lot of extra attention to this complex.”

Police are asking anyone with information to call Central Indiana Crime Stoppers at (317) 262-TIPS.
