HAMMOND, Ind. (WTHR) - A Portage man is facing a felony charge after an Indiana State Police trooper caught him speeding on I-80/94 early Saturday morning.

Trooper Alaa Hamed spotted a white 2011 Audi speeding just inside the Illinois-Indiana state line around 3 a.m. and clocked it at 142 m.p.h. in a 55 mp.h. zone. The trooper chased the Audi for four miles in an unmarked black Dodge Charger.

Trooper Hamed asked the driver, identified as Lance A. Muckey, 35, Portage, the reason for the high speed.

Muckey allegedly stated that he was a “thrill-seeker.”

After smelling alcohol, Muckey agreed to a chemical test for intoxication and his blood alcohol content registered at .16-percent, which is twice the legal limit in Indiana.

Muckey was taken to the Lake County Jail and faces preliminary charges of:

  • Operating While Intoxicated Prior Conviction (Level 6 Felony)
  • Operating While Intoxicated Endangering (Class A Misdemeanor)
  • Operating While Intoxicated (Class C Misdemeanor)
  • Reckless Driving (Class B Misdemeanor)
