JENNINGS COUNTY, Ind. (WTHR) - A man was arrested on drug charges after the small child he was supposed to be watching wandered into the street in Jennings County.
Sheriff's deputies responded to the Country Squire Lakes neighborhood near North Vernon Tuesday morning on a report that a 2-year-old was found in the road without an adult present. Deputies found the child and left them in the custody of the Division of Family and Children while officers searched for the parents.
A little more than two hours later, Jennings County Sheriff Kenny Freeman spoke with someone who knew where the child lived and police contacted the adults at that residence. Those adults told deputies the child's mother's boyfriend, 30-year-old Eddie Swindall III, was supposed to be watching the child, who left the home through the back door.
Investigators also learned Swindall was in the possession of prescription drugs that were not prescribed to him. He was arrested on charges including possession of a controlled substance, neglect of a dependent, and violation of legend drug, all felonies, as well as a misdemeanor charge of possession of paraphernalia.
