CUMBERLAND, Ind. (WTHR) — The mother of an 8-year-old girl and her boyfriend have been charged in the 8-year-old's death.

According to Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears, Kimberly Grosklos and Derrick Dale have been charged for their roles in the April 6 death of Grosklos’ 8-year-old daughter.

Grosklos has been charged with:

  • Murder
  • Aggravated Battery (Level 1 Felony),
  • Neglect of a Dependent Resulting in Death (Level 1 Felony)
  • Battery Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury (Level 3 Felony).

Dale has been charged with:

  • One count of Neglect of a Dependent Resulting in Death (Level 1 Felony)

The incident happened around 5 p.m. on April 6 at their home in the 11500 block of Kirkwood Dr. in Cumberland.

The girl's mother reportedly told CPD that her daughter got into trouble at home and got a spanking before she was told to then go take a bath.

A few minutes later the girl's mother told police she and her boyfriend heard a strange noise coming from the bathroom and found her daughter underwater.

That’s when the boyfriend reportedly took girl from bath and placed her on the floor. The mother told police she then dressed her daughter, gave her CPR and called 911.

Paramedics arrived but could not save the 8-year-old.

Right now detectives hope to learn more from toxicology results, which are pending from the Marion County Coroners Office.

Investigators were informed the child had sustained extensive recent injuries to her body that were consistent with abuse.

The mother explained that bruising as coming from a fight with other children in the neighborhood recently.

An autopsy showed no evidence of natural disease in the little girl's body.
