INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - Mayor Joe Hogsett and IMPD Chief Bryan Roach are coming together once again to battle crime in Indianapolis.

They say there's hope for the next year, despite the recent killings and violence in the city.

Roach said two more peacemakers will join the Office of Public Health and Safety next year. Their goal is to reduce violence in the community by talking to people about it one-on-one.

IMPD is also adding more beats for officers to focus on.

Meanwhile, overall crime is down. FBI data shows an 8 percent drop in overall crime between 2016 and 2017. Data collected through September of this year shows crime is down an additional 5 percent.
