Lafayette student arrested for pointing handgun outside high school

An 18-year-old student has been arrested after he was reportedly pointing a handgun at other students outside a school in Lafayette.

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WTHR) – An 18-year-old student has been arrested after he was reportedly pointing a handgun at other students outside a school in Lafayette.

The Lafayette Police Department responded to the Crossing Alternative High School around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday for reports of a fight and a student pointing a firearm.

The student had left the area before officers arrived on scene.

Authorities say 18-year-old Colby Blissitt was in an altercation with another student outside of the school following the school day. During this incident, Blissitt was brandishing a baseball bat, however nobody was struck.

Blissitt then got into his vehicle and as he was driving past the school, he pointed a handgun at a group of five students standing in front of the school.

Police say the students aged 15 to 18 years of age, were not injured.

Blissitt was located by the White County Sherriff’s Department and was taken into custody without incident.

Blissitt was booked into the Tippecanoe County Jail on the following charges:

  • Intimidation with a deadly weapon
  • Pointing a firearm
  • Carrying a handgun without a license.

No shots were fired and no injuries occurred in this incident.
