GOSHEN, Ind. (WTHR) - A Kroger employee in northern Indiana is accused of stealing nearly $170,000 from the store to buy drugs.

Our partners at The Goshen News report 59-year-old Kevin Escobedo was arrested at work last Friday. He reportedly told police he stole $168,000 from the store in increments up to $500 over the course of two years.

Escobedo, who worked in the store's cash office, said he would take money from the safe at different times. He said he's addicted to cocaine and used the money to pay bills.

He last took money from the store on August 19. He wrote a letter confessing to the thefts.

Escobedo was charged with felony theft and jailed on a $10,000 bond.
