INDIANAPOLIS — A four-year veteran with IMPD has been formally charged Monday after his arrest Friday. The Marion County Prosecutor's Office charged Mittan Katoch, 29, with domestic battery and battery resulting in bodily injury after an incident at home on July 2.

Police showed up to Katoch's home around 11 p.m. that night to investigate a domestic disturbance. Katoch's wife told an officer that he had gotten very drunk and pushed her off the couch while she was sleeping, according to the probable cause affidavit. Officers noticed her shirt was torn and she complained of back pain after being pushed off the couch.

Katoch's wife also said he was angrily calling her names and told her to return to India. Katoch's father, who lives in the home, called police. Because Katoch is an IMPD officer, the Special Investigations Unit also responded to the scene. Katoch told investigators he had drunk two vodkas, but said he did not touch his wife.

His wife told an officer Katoch usually drags her by her hair and pushes her head and neck into walls. She said she had previously taken photos and videos of the incidents and damage and sent them to a friend. She said Katoch knew about them and deleted the photos and videos from her phone. She said she had never previously called police because Katoch threatened to shoot her.

During the investigation, Katoch called his sister, and an officer overheard the sister say their father called and told her Katoch had pushed his wife and ripped her shirt. Katoch said it was just a verbal argument. Police arrested him after everyone involved gave statements and officers took photos.

Domestic battery and battery resulting in bodily injury are both Class A misdemeanors. According to court documents, a judge granted a no contact order in the case Monday. Katoch's initial hearing is scheduled for Aug. 19 at 10:30 a.m.
